The Association for Play Therapy offers certification in play therapy based in part on receiving 150 Continuing Education in play therapy specific programs. The Academy for Play Therapy Training and Mary Ruth Cross offers courses and workshops that are approved by the Association for Play Therapy and are facilitated by Mary Ruth Cross, APT Approved Provider #18-544. Workshop offerings include, but are not limited to, foundational workshops introducing the history and theory of play therapy to interactive and experiential workshops where participants get hands on experience learning about play therapy. In addition, Mary Ruth Cross and the Academy for Play Therapy Training also offers group and individual supervision in support of becoming a Registered Play Therapist or Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. Play Therapy Training California – Continuing Education
The Academy for Play Therapy Training and Mary Ruth Cross offers a 3 day retreat once a year as a way for clinicians of all levels to earn continuing education credits, as mandated by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. By attending our Spark It Up! Play Therapy Experiential Retreat, LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs can earn 21 hours of continuing education while learning and playing at the beautiful San Damiano Retreat Center in the hills of Northern California. This course also supports qualifications in becoming a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy. In addition, there will be opportunities to connect with others, spend time in reflection, go for a hike on one of the many hiking trails, walking the labyrinth, or look out over the vistas of nearby Mount Diablo.
This retreat is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in learning about and experiencing play therapy techniques in order to grow your understanding of yourself as a play therapist and as a provider of the art of play therapy. Over the course of 3 days participants will focus on understanding the “self” by exploring and integrating play into your practice, enhance self-discovery and create healing through the exploration of sand trays, and explore experiential and expressive interventions to use in your work with children and families.
After attending the play therapy retreat, participants will be able to:
- Complete the ProQol assessment tool for the assessment of psychotherapist burnout and compassion fatigue and assess clinician’s level of wellness.
- Explore and demonstrate one application of the Live Integrated Experiential Playtray
- Identify & apply at least 3 CBT-based interventions and mindfulness strategies using art projects, sand tray, nature-based activities, and other experiential modalities.
- Identify and apply at least 2 movement and embodiment techniques into art-based representation of Internal Family System model.
- Create 1 personal mask to enhance deeper connection and understanding of Internal Family Systems and its application to play therapy.
